Anti-bullying week is an annual event in the UK that aims to raise awareness of bullying of children and young people. Bullying can happen to anyone, in school, online or elsewhere. Organised by the Anti-Bullying Alliance, it enables people to prevent and respond to bullying. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
What to expect at school for Anti-Bullying Week<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Schools can choose how they want to participate in anti-bullying week, but many choose to hold an \u2018Odd Socks Day\u2019 on which children and adults are encouraged to wear crazy or mismatched socks to celebrate our differences and what makes us all unique. Schools may ask for a small donation for your child to take part in \u2018Odd Sock Day\u2019, which is usually \u00a31-\u00a32 per child. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Alongside this, schools may run special assemblies focused on anti-bullying and teachers may set anti-bullying-focused activities, such as, write a letter of advice to someone who is being bullied; or, design a school poster to prevent bullying. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Is bullying a serious problem in the UK? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Bullying is, unfortunately, a common school experience around the world. In 2021\/22, the Anti-Bullying Alliance surveyed over 29,000 pupils in the UK and found that 24% of them reported being frequently bullied. To compare this with international data from 2018, an average of 23% of pupils reported being frequently bullied. As these studies are limited, it\u2019s important not to read too much into the results. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The most important thing is how bullying is dealt with if it happens, and what the government and schools are doing to prevent it altogether. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Anti-bullying all year round<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Aside from anti-bullying week, schools are required to have a publically available behaviour policy on their website which should include the specific steps they take to prevent, and respond to bullying. Many schools have a \u2018zero-tolerance policy\u2019 on bullying, meaning it is always dealt with in a serious way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This year, the theme of Anti-Bullying Week is to \u2018make a noise\u2019 and get decision makers, such as Members of Parliament, to enact further changes to make schools even happier places for children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n What to do about bullying<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Bullying can appear in many different ways. It is not all name calling or being mean. The National Bullying Helpline<\/a> website has helpful advice for parents to understand bullying and how you can support your child if needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n If you are aware, or suspect, that your child is being bullied, speak to a member of staff at their school such as their class teacher or Head of Year. \u9664\u4e86\u53cd\u6b3a\u51cc\u9031\u5916\uff0c\u5b78\u6821\u9084\u5fc5\u9808\u5728\u5176\u7db2\u7ad9\u4e0a\u767c\u4f48\u516c\u958b\u7684\u884c\u70ba\u653f\u7b56\uff0c\u5176\u4e2d\u61c9\u5305\u62ec\u4ed6\u5011\u70ba\u9632\u6b62\u548c\u61c9\u5c0d\u6b3a\u51cc\u884c\u70ba\u800c\u63a1\u53d6\u7684\u5177\u9ad4\u6b65\u9a5f\u3002\u8a31\u591a\u5b78\u6821\u6b3a\u51cc\u884c\u70ba\u63a1\u53d6\u300c\u96f6\u5bb9\u5fcd\u653f\u7b56\u300d\uff0c\u9019\u610f\u5473\u8457\u4ed6\u5011\u6703\u56b4\u8085\u8655\u7406\u6b3a\u51cc\u884c\u70ba\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u4eca\u5e74\u53cd\u6b3a\u51cc\u9031\u7684\u4e3b\u984c\u662f\u300c\u767c\u8072\u300d\uff0c\u610f\u6307\u5e0c\u671b\u8b93\u8b70\u6703\u8b70\u54e1\u7b49\u6c7a\u7b56\u8005\u5236\u5b9a\u9032\u4e00\u6b65\u7684\u8b8a\u9769\uff0c\u8b93\u5b78\u6821\u6210\u70ba\u8b93\u5b69\u5b50\u5011\u66f4\u5feb\u6a02\u7684\u5730\u65b9\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
